Who are we?

We are Team Bath Racing, a team of passionate undergraduate engineering students from the University of Bath. We are working towards a common goal of designing, building and racing a winning Formula Student car.

What do we build?

Every year, we design, build, test and race a brand-new open wheeled single seater race car, which we enter into the IMechE Formula Student competition at Silverstone, as well as competitions around the world.

How does it work?

We get involved with Team Bath Racing from day 1 of our degree, helping out on an extra-curricular basis, which develops our skills and abilities which many of us use while applying for industrial placements.

In our 3rd year of study, we form a new team, and undertake a clean sheet design as part of the University of Bath’s Mechanical Engineering Group Business & Design Project (GBDP), which account for 20% of our Master’s degree. We then take these designs and business concepts to compete in the Class 2 Formula Student event at Silverstone. Here we present our design, cost report and business presentation to judges, who then provide marks and feedback, which we use to improve our design.

As we enter our final year of engineering study, manufacture of the car begins and we watch our designs become a reality. We carry out final year research projects on the car, accounting for a further 20% of our Master’s degree. We then travel the globe to compete against the best teams in the world at Formula Student events.

How do we do?

We have competed for many years, and are the most decorated team in the UK. We were the first British team to win a Formula Student event, at FS Czech 2016, and we have taken victory at Class 2 on multiple occasions. Our next big aim is to win Formula Student UK Class 1.
